FRom tristan Chromatics to vortex of sounds and beethovenesque consolation

It is a great fortune for the House of Culture Freiburg to welcome Freiburg based Miku Arizono, one of the best aspiring pianists and composers of the younger generation who will give her debut in the Kaisersaal Freiburg with a progressive and unconventional programme in which she presents herself both as pianist and composer.

Liszt's sinister and diabolic chromatics and explosiveness, but also lyrics of his Second Ballada is striving towards new and partly disruptive soundscapes of consequent twelve tone music by Pierre Boulez, crossing the bridge of highly complex Tristan harmonics of Richard Wagner's opera "Tristan und Isolde" and the ingenious piano transcriptions by Franz Liszt and Zoltán Kocsis.

The detonation of tonal expression of music is indicated not only in Liszt-Wagner, but also in many works of other "Fin-de-Siècle-Artists" and leads to huge controversies when being faced with Pierre Boulez' First Piano Sonata in which musical expression is reduced radically to its dodecaphonic tone series as base material. Being composed in a time shortly after the shocks of deep social eruptions this music is mirroring the latests happenings suddenly being of systemic importance like never before.

For the House of Culture Freiburg it is a novelty to be able to gaze at a piano recital in which also own compositions of the pianist are being presented, reflecting concerts of tempi passati such as those by Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner. Besides the premiere of a work being still in the process of being composed the audience can experience the work Meguru (巡る "vortex") which is a multilayered and highly complex tableau of sounds. Also this work reflects the detonation of traditional tonality and strives towards eruptions and polyrhythms of a new kind of expression.

Finally, with Beethoven's Sonata in E major, Op. 109 the conclusion of this concert is a late work by Beethoven which has been composed in complete deafness and whose lyrical character and contrapuntal reminiscences of Bach reflect the essence and power of music: to give comfort and joy of life.

It is well-known that music can spend comfort and has the ability to heal. In case of the Beethoven Sonatas this is particularly the case. They remind us of a time when music was not rated based on the aspect of systemic relevance but furthermore was regarded as what it is: the source of life and consolation, especially in times of crisis.

Tickets for this wonderful recital, taking place on Friday, 18th December 2020 at 08:10 p.m. (admission from 07:30 p.m.) can be purchased in advance via the ticket shop seen below and at the box office on the day of the recital.
